"COIN OF THE MONTH" - ALEXANDER III THE GREAT AR TETRADRACHM, AKKO MINT, CIRCA 315/314 B.C.E.
Price 3283, Newell Ake 35, About Extremely Fine / Extremely Fine, a few slight marks, 27.3mm, 17.21 grams, Ake Mint, some attribute to Tyre Mint
Obverse: Head of Alexander as Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress
Reverse: Zeus seated to left on throne, holding eagle in his extended right hand and scepter in his left, in left field date (year 32), AΛEΞANΔPOY to right
An OUTSTANDING example, struck on a somewhat oval flan, with SUPERB detail! The Tetradrachms of Akko are usually flatly struck, this one with excellent relief on BOTH obverse and reverse. One of finest, if not the finest examples of these that we have seen in term of boldness and fine detail.
