PORCIUS FESTUS PRUTAH, PROCURATOR UNDER NERO
Hendin 6380, TJC 345, Fine, 16.6mm, 2.22 grams
Obverse: Blank [Inscription (of Nero) within wreath, bottom tied with X]
Reverse: LE KAICAPOC, palm branch (Date year 5 = 58/59 C.E.)
At first glance the obverse seems to be unstruck. When carefully examining the coin however, faint traces of the borders and legends could be made out. It is hard to understand how one side could totally wear down while the other is in at least fine condition. Perhaps the coin was struck with some leaf or other item between the obverse die and the coin? Quite enigmatic.
