MATTATHIAS ANTIGONUS MEDIUM DENOMINATION AE (4 PRUTAH)
Hendin 6198, Very Fine, 19.4mm, 7.72 grams, Struck 40 - 37 B.C.E.
Obverse: Mattatayah the High Priest in Paleo Hebrew around single cornucopia tied with ribbons
Reverse: BACIΛ ANTIΓO (King Antigonus) in Greek within wreath, filleted border
Nice weighty example with a CLEAR nearly perfect Greek side! The Hebrew side is interesting. We have never seen one quite like this. The top of the cornucopia is usually clear on these poorly struck coins and the bottom withers away. On this coin it is the opposite. Because of its positioning it is the bottom part of the cornucopia that is clear, almost making it look like a different coin type.
