HEROD THE GREAT AE DOUBLE PRUTAH
Hendin 1171a, TJC 46a, Ariel & Fontanille O3/R2, Good Very Fine, 16.4mm, 2.85 grams, Struck Circa. 37 B.C.E., Samaria mint
Obverse: Poppy on stalk
Reverse: Inscription HPΩΔOY BAΣIΛEΩΣ around winged cadaceus, (NO date LΓ (year 3 = 37 B.C.E.) and monogram)
A SCARCE type and even rarer without the date in the fields, being the only published die of the type. This is a very nice example well struck with clear and full legends, except for the spot of the corrosion. That small area has greatly reduced the price, allowing for a very reasonable opportunity on a harder to fill Jewish coin, and still with very good eye appeal!
