"COIN OF THE MONTH" - JUDAEA AR YEHUD, UNDER PERSIAN RULE, ONE GERAH

Hendin 1056, TJC 6, Extremely Fine, 7.8mm, .39 grams. Struck Circa. 350 - 330 B.C.E.

Obverse: Head of Persian King wearing jagged crown to right, semi circle from owl clash below (see GBC 5ed. pg. 125 for extended explanation)

Reverse: Owl standing to right, head facing, inscription YHD in paleo-hebrew to right, lily to left

An amazing coin of the rarer (Rated RR in GBC) clashed die type (see circle at bottom of obverse die) and a candidate for the finest known! One of the SHARPEST. BOLDLY struck and nicely centered, one of the most COMPLETE specimens, and with a FULL legend. The consignor who graded this SUPERB, purchased the coin from David Hendin back in 2003 for $1,500.

We found only two nice examples of these to have sold in recent years. Neither is as nice as ours. This more worn example sold in Jan. 2022 for $3000, see here. This porous and incomplete example, see here, sold for $1800 in 2021, and for $2625 when sold earlier in 2015.

Ex: VJM Collection, NJ  Purchased from David Hendin, 2003
