"COIN OF THE MONTH" - PONTIUS PILATE RETROGRADE LITUUS AE PRUTAH
TJC 333 (same dies),Hendin 6371d, Very Fine, 15.3mm, 1.79 grams, Struck 30/31 C.E.
Obverse: Crude Date LIZ within wreath
Reverse: TIBEPIOY KAICAPOC around littus
An EXCELLENT, and no doubt one of the finest examples, of the RARE Pontius Pilate retrograde lituus coin, the same dies but nicer than the TJC plate specimen that Menorah coin project has chosen as the best! In addition to the retrograde lituus the "L" of LIZ was totally omitted from the reverse. Beautiful natural patina in black, browns a greens. (White spots are just camera reflection)
