COIN OF THE MONTH - HEZEKIAH HAPECHA AR YEHUD, 1/2 MA'AH
Hendin 1069, Extremely Fine, 7.4mm, .23 grams. Struck Circa. 333 - 302 B.C.E.
Reverse: Inscription YHZQY[H] (Hezekiah) to right, and HPKH (the governor) to left of owl standing right, head facing the feathers of the head form a beaded circle.
Obverse blank as typical. The reverse with the Hezekiah inscription was boldly struck from a fresh die with an exceeding clear and bold bird and inscription. Quite hard to find the inscription this well struck!
Hapecha is the Biblical term for a governor (appointed during the Persian period) as found explicitly in the bible.
