"COIN OF THE MONTH" - HEROD AGRIPPA II FOR DOMITIAN, UNDER FLAVIAN RULE
Hendin 6328, TJC 179, Very Fine+, 28.2mm, 16.80 grams, Struck Circa. 83/84 C.E., Caesarea Paneas (Philippi) Mint
Obverse: AYTOKPA ΔOMITIA KAICAP A ΓEPMANI (Emperor Domitian Caesar Germanicus) around laureate head of Domitian to right
Reverse: Tyche-Demeter stands to left wearing kalathos, holding grain ears in right hand and cornucopia in left, ETOY EΛ BA AΓPI ΠΠA (year 35, King Agrippa) across fields
A rarer version of this coin type rated RR in Hendin's Guide to Biblical Coins. Not your typical Coin of the Month, but a coin I have been holding a long time because of its charm. It is HIGHLY detailed beneath the thick hard patina, has great provenance, and is hefty and HEAVY in hand, with a wonderful underlying red, green and black patina. Just has a great ANCIENT Biblical coin look and feel!
