HASMONEAN, ALEXANDER JANNAEUS AE PRUTAH, "LILY"

Hendin 6184, About Extremely Fine, contrast added 15.4m, 1.60 grams, Struck Circa. 103 - 76 B.C.E. (not toward end)

Obverse: "Yehonatan the King" in Paleo-Hebrew around Lily (shaped like a Rhodian rose)

Reverse: Anchor within circle BAΣIΛEΩΣ AΛEΞANΔPOY around

The scarcer type for Alexander Jannaeus with the title of "King" and a partial Greek inscription. Great numbers of these were overstruck in the later years of his reign with the regular inscription/cornucopia type.

Somewhat off-center; still unusually crisp and sharp!
